You can tell a lot about a girl by what she carries in her purse. Actually, I’m not sure how true that is, but it sounded good and these sorts of posts are some of my favorites! I guess that makes me nosy, huh?
Something about the aesthetic of a good handbag has always set my heart racing (Pretty sure I get a little light headed when I think about the beauty that is a caviar leather Chanel flap bag with gold hardware…excuse me while I fan myself). Not only are handbags often works of art, but they can be highly functional. I mean, who doesn’t need a black hole with handles in which to keep their gum and phone charger!? Admittedly, my handbag wish list is a lot larger than my actual collection, but I tend to invest in more expensive bags. Of course, any bag will do (I have no-name bags that I love just as much as my designer ones), but I often make handbag purchases as gifts to myself in conjunction with life accomplishments (it makes me feel just a little less guilty and helps me associate the bag with something that makes me proud).
For instance, the bag featured in this post is my Speedy 30, purchased for myself by myself after graduating from undergrad. I think 4 years of hitting the books deserves a little something, don’t you!? I love this bag because it holds so much. It can actually be a problem, and I have to remind myself not to over-pack it. Since this bag is devoid of any real compartments on the inside (it has one “pocket” that is actually just a slit and a canvas out pouching that maybe fits a phone or a card holder) I utilize smaller bags on the inside to better keep myself organized.
I use two super cute Kate Spade pouches for my phone charger (call me a product of my generation but I have a mini panic attack if my phone ever dies!) and contact case. I also use a Louis Vuitton cosmetic case as a sort of catch-all for some of my most reached for items like my car key, house keys, gum, tissues (of the Disney princess variety) and compact mirror.
So go ahead, take a peek inside my bag…really, I won’t mind! And don’t forget to tell me about your must have essentials and your dream bags in the comments below.
