First Impression: Clinique Beyond Perfecting Foundation

This is a new sort of post for me, but I’m really excited to stop holding myself back and start tackling posts I’ve been wanting to write and share with you all!

I just always worry that my pictures aren’t the clearest, my lighting isn’t the best, and I don’t like how I look in 9/10 of the pictures I take of myself and well, silly insecurities like those have prevented me from doing makeup tutorials and product reviews…until now!

So, bear with me and this post because it probably could be better, but I’m so proud of my little self-conscious self for posting something like this. There’s a lesson here: Fear holds us back; don’t let it! We’re all just humans trying to be the best we can be, so be gentle regarding the opinions you have of yourself and of others.

This has gotten to be a pretty deep intro for a makeup post…On to the review!

The Basics:

  • Price: $27 (on Sephora’s website)
  • Formula Type: Liquid
  • Best for What Skin Types: Dry combination-combination oily
  • Applicator: Doe Foot (no, seriously)
  • Coverage: Medium-Full
  • Claims: Per the packaging: “A foundation-and-concealer in one for a natural, beyond perfected look that lasts all day. Lightweight, mositurizing makeup covers thoroughly without clogging pores. Colour stays true, even through sweat and humidity.”
  • Instructions: Per the packaging: “For complete coverage, dot on all over face and blend. Use the unique applicator to spot conceal.”

My Impressions:

  • It had a bit of a paint-like odor, similar to that of Revlon Colorstay, but it subsided as it dried, and as I wore it throughout the day
  • I dotted it on my face with the doe foot applicator, and blended it with a sponge; I found this application worked really well…
  • …HOWEVER, I had to work somewhat quickly, because the foundation is quite thick/dried quickly (suggestion: a damp sponge to blend)
  • After an initial layer, I used to applicator to dab some extra product on my problem areas (which I had a lot of at the time!)
  • Coverage was definitely medium to full depending on how much extra product was added over the initial layer
  • The finish was pretty matte, but surprisingly light weight
  • Throughout the day the foundation wore really well, but it did oxidize a bit in the first couple of hours; nothing that can’t be worked with now that I know it happens!

Would I recommend?:

  • Yes. For the price and the amount of coverage, I think this foundation is totally worth a try!
