My Flawless Foundation Routine

I’m going to try and keep this introduction short and sweet, so I can get to the good stuff! (Because I’m telling you, I’ve got a flawless, fool proof routine you have to know about)

I’ve been fascinated by makeup for as long as I can remember. I would watch my mom apply colored shadows to her lids, and swipe creamy lipsticks across her mouth, and I was just hooked. Blush, and lipstick, and trying new eye shadow looks used to be my favorite parts of my makeup routine, but recently it’s all about that base.

A flawless looking foundation application is my ultimate goal, and over the past year I think I’ve assembled a grouping of products that create just that! Read on to achieve a flawless look with my ride or die foundation routine.

My Steps for a Flawless Face

  1. Smashbox Primer Water: I start by spritzing this on my face for moisture. I feel that starting with a well hydrated base makes everything blend that much more effortlessly!
  2. Smashbox Oil Free Face Primer: A good primer helps to even out the skin and make for a smooth canvas on which to apply your foundation. This is my go-to primer because it controls my oils, and it definitely seems to minimize and fill my pores.
  3. Anastasia Beverly Hills Stick Foundation: When I bought this, I intended to use it on its own, but it definitely didn’t cut it solo. It’s sort of a dry consistency that pulls when it’s applied, but let me tell you…this underneath a liquid foundation makes you look red carpet ready! I’m all for a full coverage look, so this works as the perfect tone evening base layer. If you prefer lesser coverage, you could skip this step, but for me it’s definitely the secret step to a flawless face. (I use a beauty blender to apply this)
  4. Kat Von D Lock It Foundation: This stuff is no joke. If you want to cover up discoloration, scarring, whatever it is you have going on- this is for you! I use about 2-2 1/2 pumps on my beauty blender and buff it into my skin until it looks as smooth and perfect as the day I was born. (About this time I’m wanting to take Snapchat selfies to document the slay-age haha)
  5. Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer: This stuff is my favorite for under my eyes. I use the lightest shade, and I look as though I got 10 hours of sleep…even though I can’t remember the last time that happened!
  6. Kat Von D Setting Powder: This is my all over face powder, and I love the finish it leaves. I was religiously using the Laura Mercier powder, but after awhile I noticed something about my makeup that was dull, and lifeless. Switching powders fixed the problem, and I think the Kat Von D foundation works best with a powder from the same brand.
  7. Kat Von D Shade and Light Palette: I use the middle shade in the top row, it’s a yellowish tan powder, to set my under-eye concealer. The powder helps to keep the concealer in place all day, and it’s an extra brightening step. Yes, please.
  8. Kat Von D Setting Spray: I used to just end my foundation/concealer routine with a couple more spritzes of the Smashbox Primer Water, and then I discovered this stuff. I truly feel as though it makes my makeup last longer, and I’ve tested it through 12 hour shifts in a dry hospital environment! It’s not joke.

I recently bought the Lock It Foundation, and I’ve been really struggling with the application. It’s very dry, so it can be difficult to blend, and I find that it ends up separating on my face by the afternoon. Have you ever experienced any of those issues?

Tabitha, my biggest suggestion is to apply the foundation with a damp sponge (I use a Beauty Blender), and onto a wet face (I spray my face with Smashbox Primer Water beforehand). I noticed a HUGE difference when I apply it with a wet sponge-It’s much easier to blend, and it looks flawless/lasts all day! I hope this helps! xoxo
