At the beginning of the planning process, I was expecting to buy our invitations offline. A pre-designed template that I could just fill in with our information sounded easy enough. After all, it was good enough for our save the dates. I quickly realized however, that none of the designs were quite what I wanted, and I wanted the invitation to be just right. The font was a bit too swirly, or the colors were a bit off, and I didn’t know if I trusted working with a designer via email.
Luckily, one of my vendors raved about a Kristen Folzenlogen at Poeme, a stationery shop on the east side of Cincinnati. Evidently she was “amazing”, and capable of designing a unique invitation right before your eyes after asking only a few questions regarding what elements you like, which you don’t, and the vibe you’re trying to achieve. She sounded a bit too good to be true, but I quickly learned that Kristen is the real deal!
First off, Poeme is the cutest, most quaint little stationary shop you could possibly imagine. It has everything from fountain pens, greeting cards, and stationary, to funky wall clocks, and unique wrapping paper, but Kristen may just be the best part.
(Seriously, though…doesn’t this paper make you want to give gifts to like, everyone just because!? That floral print gives me life!)
Kristen has an infectious personality that is so warm and welcoming, and she definitely knows her way around an invitation design! After chatting with her for around 15 or so minutes about my wedding colors, theme, and vibe, she already had an amazing and comprehensive design staring at me from her desktop. She’s seriously a wizard!
I knew I wanted the invitations to be formal, but also playful…nothing too stuffy! Kristen was able to offer advice and alternatives to help me achieve just that. She suggested straying from the traditional wording on our RSVP cards, and adding a fun, quirky liner to the inside of the envelopes for a bit of flair.
If you’re wondering what we ended up designing, here’s a bit of a sneak peek:
Kristen did such a great job, and I find myself opening and closing my invitations at least once a day…I’m slightly obsessed!
Kristen is able to work within a range of budgets, and she communicates constantly regarding your design and any tweaks you’d like to make. Also, Kristen and Poeme don’t just do wedding invitations! I can only imagine the killer holiday cards, programs (she’s going to do those for me as well!), bridal shower invitations, and so much more that they come up with! So, if you’re in need of invites, cards, or just want to explore the cutest little paper shop around, get your booty to Poeme! (Oh, and tell Kristen Molly says, Hi!)
